Consumer and healthcare professionals’ misconceptions on the harms of nicotine

Nicotine has been largely characterized as a toxin, and a large part of the smoking control efforts globally are moving towards setting a goal for a nicotine-free world. The panel will discuss about the major perception among the population, regulators and public health community, and how these are compatible with current knowledge and science. They will also examine whether focusing on a nicotine-free world might facilitate or hinder the efforts to reduce the smoking prevalence and will explore potential intended benefits and unintended harms of shifting the focus from smoking to nicotine control.
