
Prof. Francesco Fedele was born in Rome on March 18, 1952. He graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1976. He specialized in Cardiovascular Diseases in 1979 and in Anesthesia and Intensive Care in 1984 from the University of Rome “La Sapienza.”
From 1980 to 1985, he was a Graduate Technician at the 1st Medical Clinic, for the needs of the 1st Chair of Cardiovascular Diseases and, from 1985 to 1987, a Tenured Researcher, again at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. From 1987 to 1988, he was Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Pathophysiology at the University of L’Aquila. From 1988 to 1990, he was Associate Professor of Cardiology and, since 1990, Tenured Associate Professor for the same discipline, also at L’Aquila. Winner of a public competition for a full-time university professor in the F0730 Cardiovascular Diseases group, from 11/01/1994 to 10/31/1997, holder of the 3rd Chair of Cardiology at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and, from February 1995 to 10/31/1997, Head of the Special Angiology Service at the Umberto I Polyclinic in Rome.
Since November 1, 1997, Professor Fedele has held the 1st Chair of Cardiology and is Head of the 1st Division of Cardiovascular Diseases at the University of Rome “La Sapienza.” From November 1998 to October 2004 and from November 2007 to the present, Professor Fedele has been Director of the Department of Cardiovascular and Respiratory Sciences at the University of Rome “La Sapienza.” Since 2000, he has been Director of the 1st School of Specialization in Cardiology at the University of Rome “La Sapienza,” and Coordinator of the phd Program in Cardiorespiratory Pathophysiology. Since 2004 he has been Director of the DAI (Integrated Care Department) for Cardiovascular and Respiratory Diseases at the Policlinico Umberto I in Rome. Since the academic year 2008-09 he has been the Coordinator of the School of Specialization in Cardiovascular Diseases. Since July 2010 he has been Director of the Cardiology Section of the Department of Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Nephrological and Geriatric Sciences.
Prof. Fedele is a member of: the Italian Society of Cardiology, of which he was Vice President from 1999 to 2000, and President from 2007 to 2008; of the Society of Sports Cardiology, of the Lancisiana Academy, of the Italian Society of Cardiovascular Ultrasound (SIEC), of which he was President from April 1993 to July 1995, of the North American Society of Cardiac Imaging (NASCI), and, since 01.01.99, President of the Group for Intervention in Cardiological Emergencies (GIEC), President of the Mediterranean Institute for Telematics in Healthcare (IMTES), and Consultant to the Superior Council of Health. Since January 2011, President of the Italian Heart and Circulation Foundation – Onlus; and since April 2011, President of the National Institute for Cardiovascular Research (INRC). Since 2022- Professor Emeritus of Cardiology University of Rome “La Sapienza”, Rome, Italy.
The scientific activity carried out continuously since 1976 has resulted in over 1,000 publications in national and international journals. Professor Fedele has focused primarily on the study of cardiovascular and cardiorespiratory pathophysiology, as well as the physical and instrumental semiotics of the cardiovascular system.
